The Tree of Life is a vital symbol in nearly every culture, including Hinduism. The Tree is depicted in the Bhagvada Gita, one of Hinduism’s sacred texts, as ‘growing with its roots in heaven, its trunk and branches extending downwards towards earth, linking heaven and earth’. The Tree of Life means ‘eternal life’ and it has various symbols on its branches. The lions and falcons on the tree indicate courage and glory. The hawk means victory; the peacocks appear as the sacred bird and the camel means wealth and happiness. The Tree also bears fruit – which confers immortality, while the Nagas or the divine serpents guard the tree.
